Smelt Hill Dam Removed ...
Lower Presumpscot River Flows Free !!!

.............

The left photo shows a newly exposed riffle section on the lower Presumpscot River at the high bridge over the river, approx. 1.5 miles above the site of the former Smelt Hill Dam, Falmouth, Maine.

The right photo shows the lower Piscataqua River, a principal tributary of the lower Presumpscot River in Falmouth. A substantial section of this river was impounded by the Smelt Hill Dam as well. The former water level can be seen at the tree line in the upper right of the photo.
