The Destruction of Sebago Lake State Park Beach
Roger Wheeler photos
May 6, 2000. High water levels flood and topple trees at Songo Beach
at Sebago Lake State Park. Lake levels were exacerbated by a state lake
level plan that maintains artificially high lake levels for much of the
spring and summer.
The upper photo shows the root balls and trunks of old growth pitch pine
trees undermined and toppled by artificially high lake levels in recent
years.
The lower photo shows the flooded Songo Spit Beach and the mouth of the
Songo River.
