The Destruction of Sebago Lake State Park Beach
Roger Wheeler photos
May 6, 2000. High water levels flood and topple trees at Songo Beach
at Sebago Lake State Park. Lake levels were exacerbated by a state lake
level plan that maintains artificially high lake levels for much of the
spring and summer.
Note the large tree stump circled in the lower photo. This is a 150 old
year-old red pine that had been flooded and died the previous year. Park
employees dragged the root ball and stump from the beach front to the picnic
area for removal. This is the stump shown sitting on the beach in the previous
set of photos.
